Jan says, "Get a Grip!"

Issue #7

Get a grip!

A magnetic mount is a fast, secure and inexpensive ways to mate your phone to a tripod. (If you have an older phone with a magnetic back, see below.)

The magnetic iPhone holder mounted on the Joby medium tabletop tripod.

This little magnetic head can be purchased separately if you already own a tripod. I use mine on this handy Joby tripod with flexible legs (mounts almost anywhere) and often switch it to my larger Benro 5 foot field tripod.

This 5 + foot Benro tripod is a workhorse. Light but sturdy and well designed, it extends on uneven ground by shortening leg(s) and/or swinging them out as illustrated here. The legs are easy to extend or fold up quickly. Above, I am using a "Movo" iPhone grip on the tripod to grab an older iPhone (one without the magnetic back). The Movo is screwed to the phone and then mounted on the tripod. It allows me to take both portrait or landscape photos. Works great!

I use yet another magnetic grabber to hold my phone to the dash in my car. It is very secure and has never let go even off road.
